Join Hand in Hand as our New Treasurer

Are you passionate about transforming lives through education and community development? Do you have a head for numbers and a heart for making a difference? Hand in Hand is seeking a dedicated Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and help us continue empowering vulnerable children and communities across Kenya and East Africa.

About Us

Our vision is to see that every child in East Africa is enabled to realise their potential to break the cycle of poverty.

Our mission is to educate, mentor, train and empower orphaned and vulnerable East African young people, so that they can realise their God-given potential and break the cycle of poverty in the lives of their family and wider community.

In partnership with our sister organisation, Hand in Hand Foundation (Kenya), we collaborate with local partners to deliver holistic programs in education, mentoring and training — ensuring every child can thrive. Our work is rooted in our shared Christian faith, compassion, and a belief in the potential of every child.

We are at an exciting point in our journey. Innovations in our strategy and opportunities to make social investments to support the long-term sustainability of Hand in Hand Foundation are increasing our attention among Christian philanthropists seeking to make more significant financial gifts to us. These gifts, whether for grant making or social impact investment, will accelerate our mission and expand our reach.

About the Role

As Treasurer, you will play a key role in overseeing the charity's financial health and ensuring we steward our resources wisely. Working closely with the Board and office team, you will provide financial guidance, review reports, and help shape our strategy for sustainable impact.

This is a voluntary position.

The ideal candidate would be able to commit the equivalent of 16 hours per month to support management reporting and signatory duties and be available to attend 4 trustee meetings per year (usually evenings, hybrid arrangements possible).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the financial governance of the charity
  • Provide financial insight and guidance to the Board
  • Support the preparation and review of budgets, accounts, and annual reports
  • Ensure compliance with charity financial regulations
  • Champion transparency and effective financial management

  • Has a background in finance, accounting, or financial management (essential)
  • Shares our Christian ethos and passion for transforming lives (essential)
  • Can communicate complex financial information clearly (essential)
  • Has experience in charity accounting (desirable but not essential)
  • Has an interest or knowledge of social impact investing (desirable but not essential)

Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential.

More important is your heart for service and your ability to contribute to our vision.

What You'll Gain

By joining Hand in Hand, you'll be part of a committed and inspiring team making a tangible difference in the lives of children and communities. You'll have the opportunity to use your skills for a greater purpose while developing your leadership and governance experience.
